The funeral is over, now what How am I supposed to live without my son, when I’ve been loving him for so long? I’ve; left many relatives at the cemetery, but I never had to leave my child at the cemetery Some days I am ok and other days I feel like I am losing my mind. I think about him all during the day and when I retire at night he visits me and then the next day it starts all over again

A Mother's Captain (A foundation for Arvell). A Mother's Captain foundation will be a day to honor my brother Mr. Arvell Dixon. When speaking to my mother about this foundation she reminded me that she and my brother had frequent exchanges describing himself as her captain and her being his copilot.
This was often shared when my brother would be handling tasks and chores for our mother taking the lead and reassuring her that he had her back and proved to be leading the way.
A Mother's Captain (A foundation for Arvell) will allow men to honor our ladies with a day of service such as a helping hand in the garden, moving furniture items, etc. or even a conversation.
This foundation will be two-fold. It will offer a smile to a mother (our neighborhood matriarch’s) who need to be uplifted. As well as provide the touch of a mother to our boys and men who may also need that nurturing touch that our matriarch's so often give.
The day of service will be the first Saturday in July. For this year it will be Saturday July 3, 2021

Arvell is 7 years my senior but never bothered or annoyed with being my big brother. Arvell always looked out for me. One of my favorite titles that I hold is that of being "Arvell's Little Sister". I can recall the days being back in the neighborhood, on the "block" and I would hear murmuring in the background from girls and boys "that's Arvell's little sister" I didn't know if that was good or bad at initially, but later learned it was the admiration of people of my brother because he provided so much joy and excitement to others. Arvell was involved in every important benchmark in my life; from kindergarten graduation to my Masters degree graduation. Of course he was in my wedding and available to baby sit for both my daughters. He never left my side as my support, if I needed him he was there. He never told me no. This foundation is my way of honoring his life by filling a void in someone else's life if even for a day, the same way Arvell did for me, my Mom and others.
